![]() The bolt would still have to be pulled back manually before firing, but given the use of military-style magazine pouches this was still definitely faster than reloading a standard MP40. Once one magazine was emptied, the shooter would just press a latch on the front of the housing and slide the unit laterally and inch or so, positioning the second loaded magazine in the path of the bolt. The pair of magazine wells was a sliding unit that could move left and right under the receiver. The design used a completely stock MP40 and replaced the magazine housing with a redesigned one which held two magazines side by side. The gun was intended for special operations troops who were judged to have a particularly pressing need for more ammo on hand to deal with ambushes and high-intensity close range firefights. If one mag is good, two must be better – right? Well, the German army took a rather unusual approach to this issue in 1942, when it introduced an experimental double-magazine version of the MP40. Whether it is drum mags, longer box mags, jungle clips to connect multiple mags together, or other gimmicks, more ammo is always the goal. The gun has been worn to a more "Spring of '45" look.Īttached to the side of the mechbox (using the top motor screw) is a narrow piece of galvanized steel (stove pipe) which covers the battery and hides the brass colored cylinder. From the first introduction of detachable magazines on firearms, people have been looking for ways to increase magazine capacity. The selector switch has been removed and the plastic "fake baked". ![]() I replaced to two weak screws that were holding the bolt handle to the fake bolt and put in new steel hex screws with washers which make the bolt handle rock solid. You can place it underneath so that it cant be seen. The space is narrow so either a very skinny spring or a piece of bungi cord (or rubber band?) can be used to pull the bolt forward into the the fire position. It can be done, but I was satisified with just having the working bolt. ![]() The original idea was to attach a spring on the inside of the fake bolt that would cause the bolt to slam forward into the closed position after being moved off safe. Like Guinness I removed the fake plate on the back of the receiver and modified (cut away) part of the fake bolt so that the bolt handle could travel all the way up to the safe position. I knew from the moment I saw this thing that I had to find a way to make the bolt work. There is something about being able to manipulate the bolt on a gun that makes it a whole lot more enjoyable. ![]()
